Another Baylor basket and two free throws from Akinjo pushed the Bears' lead to 63-54 with just under two minutes left. Bishop and Marcus Carr each scored 13 points to lead Texas.

Adam Flagler and James Akinjo each scored 19 points to send No. 3 Baylor over No. 21 Texas 68-61, as the Bears spoiled the final Longhorns men’s game in the 45-year-old Frank Erwin Center.

Jaden Shackelford scored 19 points and had nine rebounds as Alabama toppled No. 4 Baylor 87-78 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Baylor is once again the unanimous No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll, and fifth-ranked Southern California climbed to its highest ranking in nearly five decades.

James Akinjo scored 16 points, LJ Cryer had 10 of his 13 in the second half, and top-ranked Baylor beat No. 8 Iowa State 77-72 for the Cyclones’ first loss.

Baylor coach Scott Drew knew his sixth-ranked Bears might need time to blend a changed roster after losing four starters from a national-championship run.

WACO, Texas — (AP) — LJ Cryer scored 21 points and James Akinjo had 11 points with a career high-tying 11 assists, leading No. 9 Baylor to an 86-48 victory over Stanford on Saturday. Cryer hit two late jumpers, including a 3-pointer, to give the sophomore another career high in scoring while going 5 of 9 from long range. He set his career high at 20 two games ago and matched it the previous outing. Akinjo's previous career high for assists came as a freshman with Georgetown against Creighton in 2018-19.
