The total cut was one more than the previous high at the tender deadline, ahead of the 2004 season. Schwarber earned $2,596,296 in prorated pay from his $7.01 million salary last season but hit .188 with 11 homers in 59 games, down from 38 homers, 92 RBIs and a .250 batting average in 155 games in 2019. LeMahieu back with Yanks after recovering from COVID-19
NEW YORK Second baseman DJ LeMahieu returned to the field for the New York Yankees on Friday after missing nearly two weeks with COVID-19. LeMahieu was not in the lineup for Friday's intraquad game but hit in a batting cage and was to take grounders on the field. Boone wants LeMahieu to build up his legs and said it's not clear whether he will be ready for Thursday night's opener at Washington. LeMahieu signed with the Yankees before the 2019 season and hit .327. Following the departure of shortstop Didi Gregorius as a free agent, LeMahieu is expected to be mostly a second baseman this season as Gleyber Torres shifts to shortstop.

Also testing positive was Kansas City backup catcher Cam Gallagher said he has the virus. Gallagher, who said he is asymptomatic, participated in an intrasquad game on Friday night before receiving his positive test results on Saturday. His confusion stemmed from the fact that he didnt experience symptoms and also had multiple negative tests. DeShields, who had mild symptoms, had been in Cleveland for a few days but wasnt cleared until Saturday after testing negative twice.
