Braves again blow their chance for 3-0 NLCS lead on Dodgers
NLCS Braves Dodgers Baseball Atlanta Braves pitcher Luke Jackson takes a moment before pitching in the eight inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of baseball's National League Championship Series Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, in Los Angeles. The Braves realize even the best-laid plans and the best-located pitches can go wrong in the postseason, particularly when you're facing the Los Angeles Dodgers. Once again, the Braves missed their chance to put their big-budget opponents into the deepest of series holes. And this heartbreaker probably stung the Braves a whole lot more than last year’s 15-3 loss in Game 3. The Dodgers then got six more hits off Jackson and Chavez in the eighth.wftv.com
Schwarber, Bradley, Duvall among 59 cut in pandemic fallout
The total cut was one more than the previous high at the tender deadline, ahead of the 2004 season. Schwarber earned $2,596,296 in prorated pay from his $7.01 million salary last season but hit .188 with 11 homers in 59 games, down from 38 homers, 92 RBIs and a .250 batting average in 155 games in 2019. Schwarber returned from a serious knee injury and hit .412 with two RBIs in the 2016 World Series as the Cubs won their first championship since 1908. Fifty-nine players agreed to one-year contracts ahead of the deadline, many of them facing a threat of being cut. Minnesota reached deals with five players, including pitcher José Berríos ($500,000 signing bonus plus $5.6 million salary) and center fielder Byron Buxton ($5,125,000).
Ozuna homers off Daz, Braves beat Mets in new extras format
Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried fields a ground ball by New York Mets' Jeff McNeil during the third inning of a baseball game Saturday, July 25, 2020, in New York. Ozuna, signed to an $18 million, one-year free agent deal in January, energized Atlanta's struggling offense with his opposite-field drive against Daz. Ozuna went with a 3-2 fastball just off the outside corner and roped it out to right field for his first home run with the Braves. McNeil countered with a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the fifth, but Daz couldn't make it stand. An All-Star with Seattle in 2018, Daz labored through a brutal 2019 with a 5.59 ERA and seven blown saves.
Ex-East Ridge star Greene gets chance to finish games that matter
Now, the former East Ridge star has a chance to finish games that really matter. Saddled with the worst record in the big leagues, it became clear that Detroit was looking to move Greene ahead of the deadline. "The best way to describe it is your girlfriend texts you and says, 'We need to talk,'" Greene quipped. Jackson leads the team with 17 saves, but he's blown eight other chances and seen his ERA climb to 3.96. Anthony Swarzak, who got off to a strong start after being acquired from Seattle, also has struggled in recent games.dailycommercial.com
