After a Kentucky man who fatally stabbed a 6-year-old was released from prison early and moved to Central Florida, the state’s attorney general is now pushing for changes to the state’s “insanity defense.”

Marion County detectives assisted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement with a death investigation in Marion Oaks, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said that 42-year-old Ronald Exantus was found living near a Marion County elementary school after he stabbed a 6-year-old to death nearly a decade ago.

The Florida Department of Transportation says a project that will add and extend turn lanes at the I-75 and Highway 484 interchange in the Marion Oaks area is on schedule to be completed by late fall of this year. But there are dozens of other projects in the area.

A man wanted in connection to a woman’s shooting death earlier this year in Marion Oaks was found living in the Bronx and arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Melvin Arias is accused of shooting of Milagros Guzman Lopez, who deputies located dead Friday afternoon near a gas station and shopping plaza along Marion Oaks Boulevard.

Detectives said that the man had been shot near a Dollar General at 198 Marion Oaks Blvd. They're now searching for any possible witnesses.

MARION OAKS, Fla. – A man was shot and killed Sunday night at a home in Marion County, sheriff’s officials said. The fatal shooting was reported around 9 p.m. in the Marion Oaks area. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the home and found the man dead. No other details, including information about the victim and shooter, have been released, but detectives said it’s not believed that there’s a threat to the public. An investigation is ongoing.
