Police: Woman called 911 after letting killer borrow phone

The suspect shot and killed himself behind some warehouses as officers approached, said Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray. Police had surrounded Jarid Haddock's family home after Tuesday's pre-dawn killings, but he wasn't there, Murray said at a news conference. Instead, the 21-year-old had gone to the area of a Target store in the city, where he borrowed a woman's phone and called his mother. The woman overheard the conversation, which included incriminating statements such as “I killed those people,” as well as the man's threats to kill himself, according to Murray. The woman then managed to get her phone back, separated herself from Haddock and called 911 to report his whereabouts, Murray said.

Coronavirus: Even flushable wipes not flushable, say officials

The run on toilet paper amid the coronavirus pandemic has led folks to try and find more creative ways to take care of business. Some are resorting to paper towels or buying up cheap washcloths to use, wash, and reuse while many are resorting to baby wipes, hand wipes and so-called flushable wipes. But those wipes and other items are literally causing problems down the line by clogging up local sewer systems, say officials, who are imploring everyone to stop flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet. Others think toilet paper is a cheaper alternative to tissues amid warnings of a pandemic spread of flu-like symptoms. But as long as the shortage exists, toss those so-called flushable hand wipes and baby wipes into the garbage.
