Former Washington assistant Mike McDaniel took a funny shot at Daniel Snyder's franchise
Mike McDaniel never read the memo that NFL head coaches are supposed to be boring. McDaniel used to be an assistant with the Washington Commanders franchise. At the NFL owners meeting on Monday, McDaniel was asked what he thought of Daniel Snyder selling the team. Should it be surprising that Snyder's franchise, which ranked horribly in just about every category in a recent NFLPA player poll, doesn't even give free coffee to the coaches? Given what we know about what has gone on with Snyder's franchise the past couple decades, making low-level assistants pay for coffee is pretty low on the list of transgressions.
wftv.comSame ol' same ol': No progress for Black head coaches in NFL
That led us to Jonathan.”Ryans became the third straight Black head coach hired by the Houston Texans, but there's a big caveat to that seeming sign of progress. Just five of those went to Black coaches — three of them hired by the Texans. There were seven Black head coaches that year, and two of them met in the Super Bowl for the first time ever. Tampa Bay is the lone team that's had four Black head coaches, with Bowles preceded by Dungy (1996-2001), Raheem Morris (2009-11) and Smith (2014-15). Only two other teams — Houston and the Raiders (who twice gave Shell the job) — have hired Black head coaches three times.

PHOENIX — (AP) — From diversity to concussions, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reiterated the league is still looking for improvement. We look to see how we can make things better.”Player safety is always a hot topic in the NFL. Concussions were magnified and the league revised its protocols during the season after criticism for the way Tua Tagovailoa’s head injuries were handled. The NFL announced last week concussions had increased by 18 percent during the regular season. “I think that’s a reason why concussions went up this year, because we had a broader definition,” Goodell said.

The Miami Dolphins, looking to boost their defense, hired Fangio. Fangio joins the Dolphins and will be the NFL's highest-paid coordinator according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. He was 19-30 in three seasons as Broncos head coach, but his defense wasn't the biggest problem in Denver.

NEW YORK — (AP) — A review by the NFL and its players association determined that Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa didn't need to go into concussion protocol during the team’s game against Green Bay because he wasn't showing signs of a head injury at the time. Tagovailoa didn't report symptoms of a concussion until a day after his team's Christmas Day loss to the Packers, "at which time the team medical personnel appropriately evaluated and placed Mr. Tagovailoa in the concussion protocol," according to a joint statement released Saturday. The NFL later changed its concussion protocol to mandate that any player who shows possible concussion symptoms — including a lack of balance or stability — sit out the remainder of a game.

wftv.comThe Miami Dolphins need a counterpunch. Here's what it could be
Twelve weeks into the season, the Miami Dolphins looked like one of the best offenses in the NFL under first-year head coach Mike McDaniel. The San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Chargers thwarted the Dolphins in consecutive weeks and dealt Miami its first two losses since Tagovailoa returned from a concussion. Tagovailoa can say the Dolphins knew what they’d face defensively these past two weeks, but it worked flawlessly. “They got us off their rhythm,” wideout Jaylen Waddle said after the Chargers game. Here's how Miami can counterThe easiest solution to the Dolphins' issues is to just do the opposite of what they're currently doing.
wftv.comMike McDaniel's Dolphins aren't 49ers East. They're something elevated
It’s easy to make the link between the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers, who play each other in Week 13. Head coach Mike McDaniel worked under Kyle Shanahan for almost his entire career prior to joining the Dolphins and brought with him a plethora of players from the 49ers roster. Dolphins don't run your father’s Shanahan offenseTo understand what McDaniel has done, you have to understand where his offensive style comes from first. Rather than retrofit his players to the offense, McDaniel did the opposite. The Dolphins lead the AFC East with a 7-3 record coming out of their bye week and are a game back of the No.
