Trubisky warmed up briefly while Pickett spent time in the blue medical tent and then checked on his teammate before Pickett went out for Pittsburgh's second drive. “He said he was feeling fine, and that was that.”This is the second time this season Pickett has been placed in the protocol. Steelers QB Pickett to play if he clears concussion protocol

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett will practice on Wednesday and will play next Sunday night against Miami if he clears the NFL's concussion protocol. “If Kenny Pickett is cleared to play, he’ll play,” Tomlin said. Pickett left in the third quarter against the Buccaneers after being legally knocked to the ground by Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White. Tomlin praised Trubisky for his contributions, but has no plans to go back to Trubisky if Pickett is good to go. Pickett is the fifth Steelers player to enter the concussion protocol this season.

Trubisky comes off bench as Steelers stun Brady, Bucs 20-18

The Steelers (2-4) snapped a four-game losing streak by relying on a largely anonymous defense missing almost its entire starting secondary. Trubisky connected with Claypool again for a 26-yard gain on the Steelers' final drive and then ran for a 9-yard gain that finished off Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh: Jack left in the fourth quarter with a left leg issue after tackling WR Chris Godwin following a short gain. ... CB James Pierre left in the fourth quarter after slamming into Godwin while attempting to break up a pass. Tampa Bay is 4-0 against the Panthers since Brady arrived in 2020.

Steelers QB Pickett leaves with a possible concussion

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett left Sunday's game against Tampa Bay in the third quarter after entering the league's concussion protocol. Pickett's head appeared to hit the turf after being legally pushed to the ground by Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White just after releasing a pass. Pickett lay on the Acrisure Stadium turf for several seconds before getting up on his own. The team ruled Pickett out for the rest of the game early in the fourth quarter. Mitch Trubisky, who lost his starting job to Pickett at halftime of a loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 2, replaced Pickett.

Kenny Pickett will be Steelers' starting QB vs. Bills

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — The Kenny Pickett Era is officially underway in Pittsburgh. The rookie quarterback will make his first career start Sunday when the Steelers visit Buffalo. Pickett, the 20th overall pick in the draft, made his regular season debut in the second half of a 24-20 loss to the New York Jets. Pickett replaces Mitch Trubisky, who was signed in the offseason but was benched at halftime against the Jets as coach Mike Tomlin looked for a spark. Pittsburgh is 1-3 heading into a stretch against teams with a combined 12-4 record, starting with a visit to 3-1 Bills.

Steelers finally turned to Kenny Pickett, and if they're smart they'll keep doing so

Pittsburgh needed to see what it has in Pickett, and they probably confirmed one thing: He's better than Trubisky. Even with the turnovers, Pickett provided some life that Trubisky wasn't giving them. Ideally, Pickett is someone that can raise the floor of the Steelers offense. Pickett is supposed to be a safe quarterback prospect and the Steelers offense could definitely use a sturdy set of guard rails right now. It’s a Pickett party in Pittsburgh and now he has his chance to become the next long-term starting quarterback for the Steelers.

Wilson rallies Jets past Pickett, Steelers 24-20

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Breece Hall ran for a 2-yard touchdown with 16 seconds remaining and Zach Wilson and the New York Jets spoiled Kenny Pickett's debut in Pittsburgh by rallying for a 24-20 victory over the Steelers on Sunday. Wilson took the Jets 65 yards in 10 plays, the final two coming as Hall churned his way across the goal line. The Jets were up 10-6 at the half and the Steelers made a move that was inevitable at some point, inserting Pickett in place of the struggling Mitch Trubisky. Wilson responded with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis that drew the Jets within 20-17 with 7:35 to go. Pickett drove the Steelers into New York territory, but his sideline throw to tight end Pat Freiermuth was high and late.

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — It's Kenny Pickett time for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The rookie quarterback made his NFL debut in the second half on Sunday against the New York Jets, coming in after starter Mitch Trubisky was hit late near the end of the first half. Pickett, taken 20th overall by the Steelers as the heir apparent to the retired Ben Roethlisberger, received a massive ovation from the Acrisure Stadium crowd. His first drive ended with an interception by New York safety Jordan Whitehead, who briefly played with Pickett with the Panthers in 2017. The team made no injury announcement on Trubisky, who walked onto the field in a baseball cap to start the second half.

Steelers' Trubisky takes aim at Browns in QB's rivalry debut

On Thursday night, Mitch Trubisky makes his debut in one of the NFL's fiercest feuds. The Steelers are very familiar with Garrett's ability to ruin a play and need to keep him off Trubisky. The Steelers selected 6-foot-3 wide receiver George Pickens in the second round to essentially replace JuJu Smith-Schuster, who left in free agency. Conklin's return makes the Browns' potent ground game (401 yards in two games) more dangerous. Although he was close to playing in the first two games, the Browns chose to make him inactive.

Deep trouble? Steelers look to revive sluggish pass game

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Mitch Trubisky won the starting quarterback job in Pittsburgh during training camp by basically not losing it. He didn't turn the ball over during the preseason and won raves from the coaching staff for his decision-making. “We’ve got playmakers, young playmakers, guys with a lot of talent, guys that want to be the reasons why we’re successful,” Tomlin sad. The Steelers got off to a similar sluggish start last season and recovered to make the playoffs. PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph all impressed Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin during the preseason with their respective accuracy. If only the same could be said for whoever put together the team's initial depth chart for the 2022 season. Pickett did his best to apply pressure, playing well during the preseason on his way to supplanting Rudolph as the No. “I thought that he grew and grew at a really fast pace once we got in the stadiums,” Tomlin said. Tomlin made it a point to praise Rudolph's professionalism during the process and said the play of Rudolph, Pickett and Trubisky over the past six weeks helped a young offense get up to speed quickly.

QB won: Steelers newcomer Mitch Trubisky is Week 1 starter

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Mike Tomlin deliberately — and quite effectively — declined to announce a starting quarterback for months, even as all signs pointed to Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky will be the starter on Sunday when Pittsburgh begins the post-Ben Roethlisberger era in Cincinnati. “I just think he's a guy who people rally around,” said defensive tackle Cam Heyward of Trubisky, who arrived in free agency in March. Trubisky makes case for QB job as Steelers top Lions 19-9

PITTSBURGH — (AP) — Mitch Trubisky staked his claim to take over for the retired Ben Roethlisberger, throwing for 160 yards and a touchdown as the Pittsburgh Steelers eased past Detroit 19-9 in the NFL's preseason finale on Sunday afternoon. Trubisky, signed to a two-year contract in March, was at his best late in the first half. While coach Mike Tomlin may wait to announce who will ultimately get the nod in the three-man race — well, OK, two-man race — between Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett — Trubisky did little to lose the job during three exhibition appearances. Hockenson seemed to apologize to Watt immediately after the play, and Watt remained in the game briefly before being pulled. There could be one available in Pittsburgh, where Mason Rudolph appears very much to be the third-man in the three-way race with Trubisky and Pickett.

And they're off! Steelers QB derby begins in earnest

It's why the longtime Pittsburgh Steelers coach is in no rush to announce a starting quarterback. Steelers finish on-the-fly offensive retool with draft picks

The on-the-fly retooling of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense is nearly complete. Outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert ended his 20-plus-year tenure with the organization by investing heavily in offensive skill players in his final draft, with the hope that his still-unnamed successor is well-positioned for the future. Throw them into the mix with the top of the 2021 draft class that featured running back Najee Harris and tight end Pat Freiermuth and it's clear the Steelers have loaded up on young and relatively inexpensive talent (at least in the short-term).

Brees completed 28 of 39 passes for 265 yards, connecting with Michael Thomas and Latavius Murray for touchdowns, and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Chicago Bears 21-9 in an NFC wild-card game Sunday. Brees' first touchdown pass in the opening quarter was 11-yards over the middle to Thomas, back from a three-game absence to help heal a nagging ankle injury. The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year missed nine games this season and had not caught a touchdown pass since December 2019. That 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, his second score of the game, put Chicago ahead again by double digits. Minnesota Vikings defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo drove Foles into the ground on his right side during the Bears' final drive of a 19-13 loss, and Foles stayed down for several minutes as trainers examined an injury that Nagy said was to Foles' leg or hip. Now the Bears have almost two weeks to sort out whether Mitch Trubisky, also injured two weeks earlier, will be ready to play against the Packers should Foles' injury keep him out.

Bears' offense seeks answers after poor showing against Rams

“I don’t ever remember having our own defense score more than our offense,” Nagy said. “That’s that’s that’s hard to do. But the offense has averaged 16 points per game in Foles’ four starts since, and he’s getting little help from the players around him. The offensive line struggled against the strong front of the Rams (5-2), producing just 2.9 yards per carry. Foles was sacked four times, twice at the hands of former Bears linebacker Leonard Floyd, and he threw two interceptions.

(AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast)CHICAGO – Tom Brady fell to Nick Foles again and appeared to lose count of downs on his final play, and the Chicago Bears beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-19 on Thursday night after Cairo Santos kicked a 38-year field goal with 1:17 remaining. The three-time MVP was seen screaming on the sideline late in the third quarter after an ugly drive for Tampa Bay. Ryan Succop kicked four field goals, including a 25-yarder to give Tampa Bay a 19-17 lead with 4:49 remaining. Kyle Fuller then put a big hit on Ke'Shawn Vaughn as he caught a short pass, and Robert Quinn recovered the fumble, giving the Bears possession on the Tampa Bay 27.

Brady, Buccaneers look to keep rolling when they meet Bears

“To join a team and to be embraced the way that I’ve been embraced — it’s been amazing for me,” Brady said. Brady threw for 369 yards and five touchdowns and helped Tampa Bay overcome a 17-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 38-31 last week. Indianapolis won 11 games that season, with Arians going 9-3 as interim coach while Pagano was battling leukemia. Getting it back in gear won't be easy this week, considering Tampa Bay ranks second against the run. “That happened to be a game there, where we were just struggling to get it going," coach Matt Nagy said.

Another Falcons collapse: Foles' 3 TDs lead 30-26 Bears win

The Falcons surrendered a 16-point advantage in the final 6 1/2 minutes to the Chicago Bears, who got three touchdown passes from backup quarterback Nick Foles and pulled out a 30-26 win on Sunday. It would have seemed downright improbable — if it hadn't happened for the second week in a row. The former Super Bowl MVP won it with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller with 1:53 remaining. He tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Graham to make it 26-16 with 6:20 to go. But Foles got his chance after Trubisky threw an interception in the third quarter that led to a Falcons field goal, pushing the lead to 26-10.

Trubisky threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help Chicago come back from a 17-point deficit. It looked familiar to Lions fans: Detroit opened last season by blowing an 18-point lead at Arizona and settling for a tie. Late in the game, Lions fans likely would've filled the facility with a chorus of boos.

Gase, Marrone, Quinn among NFL coaches sitting on hot seats

Hes got a lot more control of the offense this year, Gase said of Darnold. DOUG MARRONE, JAGUARSIt's hard to believe Jacksonville was a win at New England away from making the Super Bowl three seasons ago. But like Gase and the Jets, Nagy's future is likely tied to the performance of his quarterback. DAN QUINN, FALCONSThat 28-3 halftime lead over New England in the Super Bowl four seasons ago is a distant memory. A bad start this year, though, might be tough to recover from for Quinn in his sixth season.
