The Red Sox postponed their opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park on Thursday because of rain that was forecast to last all day. "One day, two days, three days — I really don't care, to be honest with you," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. The Red Sox made the announcement at 9 a.m., about five hours before the scheduled first pitch. “The decision to postpone our first game of the season was not made lightly,” Red Sox President Sam Kennedy said.
Red Sox scratch E-Rod from opener; Eovaldi to pitch instead
Nathan Eovaldi will face the Baltimore Orioles in the April 1 opener instead. “With the schedule the way it is, he won’t be able to post,” said Cora, who had announced Rodriguez as the opening day starter last week. “It's just dead arm,” the manager said, adding, "going into '20 he was supposed to be the opening day starter. Cora said it was too early to tell if Rodriguez will need to start the season on the injury list. He did everything possible to make the team, and I know he’s not going to stop," Cora said.
