With some consistency at the biggest tournaments, tennis might just have a new rival for Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka on the women's tour. The 23-year-old Rybakina won her first major title at Wimbledon on Saturday — in only her second appearance at the All England Club. “I think just now (the) generation is changing a bit and (there are) so many young players,” Rybakina told a roundtable of five journalists. “I didn't really think yet about the U.S. Open and the next tournaments,” Rybakina said. At Wimbledon, Rybakina led the tournament with 53 aces, almost twice as many as Caroline Garcia in second place with 30.

Jennifer Brady retired with an injured left foot after Gauff won the opening set. She also reached reached her first quarterfinal at a major by beating 2018 French Open runner-up Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-0. Stephens won the U.S. Open in 2017 had her run to the final at the French Open the next year.

Hobbled by cramps, the top-ranked Medvedev limped through the final few games Sunday to edge Alexei Popyrin 7-6 (3), 6-7 (7), 6-4 in the third round at the Miami Open. Kenin posted 57 unforced errors to Putintseva's 43 but still prevailed 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 over the 13th-seeded Putintseva. Kenin dropped the opening set for the second consecutive match in Abu Dhabi. Also, Aryna Sabalenka recorded her 12th consecutive win in tour matches with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ons Jabeur.
