He looked behind him and realized his hopes of winning the PGA Championship had suddenly, startlingly vanished. Collin Morikawa's on-a-rope drive had stopped 7 feet away, just behind Casey, on the 16th green. The 43-year-old Casey shot 4-under 66 to finish at 11 under, tied for second with Dustin Johnson and two shots behind the champion. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu)Bogey, bogey, bogey. This was not what Brooks Koepka had in mind when he was thinking about three in a row at the PGA Championship. Koepka's biggest challenge is history in bid for 3 in a row
Woods won majors at a faster clip than anyone. That's why the biggest challenge facing Brooks Koepka as he goes for a third straight PGA Championship this week at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco is more about history than his troublesome left knee and recent form. Now it's about Walter Hagen, who won the PGA Championship four straight times (1924-27) when it was match play. For someone with this much history on the line, Koepka still has managed to avoid the spotlight in the weeks leading into the PGA Championship. He has gone back-to-back in the Masters and British Open, and twice in the PGA Championship.

PGA Championship confirms no fans for Harding Park
The PGA Championship, originally scheduled for May 14-17 in San Francisco, now is set for Aug. 6-9 and will be the first of three majors this year. PGA of America officials were prepared to go elsewhere if playing in San Francisco would not allow health standards to be met. Woods tied for 29th, 14 shots behind, when he was going for a third straight PGA Championship title in 2001 in Atlanta. Walter Hagen won four straight times from 1924-27 when the PGA Championship format was match play. The PGA Championship next year goes to Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

PGA Championship staying at Harding Park, but without fans
The PGA of America has submitted plans to hold the PGA Championship at Harding Park without spectators, and the San Francisco Chronicle reports public health officials have approved it. An announcement was pending approval by San Francisco officials and was expected as early as Tuesday. It at least sets the PGA Championship for Aug. 6-9 at Harding Park, the public course along a golf landscape near the Pacific Ocean that includes Olympic Club, Lake Merced, San Francisco Golf Club and Cal Club. Harding Park will host its first major championship, having previously been host of two World Golf Championships one won by Tiger Woods (American Express Championship), the other by Rory McIlroy (Match Play Championship). Now that the PGA of America has its plan for its major championship, the next task is the Ryder Cup.
