Osaka withdrew from Roland Garros after she was fined $15,000 for skipping the postmatch news conference after her first-round victory at the French Open. “We really tried to engage with Naomi several times, several ways, including on the practice courts, including in writing,” said Amelie Oudea-Castera, the French tennis federation director general. French Open organizers said they “took care” of Osaka since her withdrawal and French tennis federation president Gilles Moretton said former French player Nathalie Dechy received a positive update from her.

On Monday, Osaka said in a social media post that she declined to participate in postgame interviews due to anxiety and depression. So her solution was to block everything out.”After her win Sunday, Osaka did go ahead with the perfunctory exchange of pleasantries with an on-court French Open “interviewer” who lobs softball questions so spectators can hear something from the athletes.

Investigation opened into match-fixing at French Open match

PARIS – The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a police investigation into suspicions of match-fixing at the French Open. The Paris prosecutor’s office said the investigation is centered on suspicions concerning one match at Roland Garros and also casting a broader look for any other evidence. German newspaper Die Welt and French sports daily L’Equipe said there were suspicious betting patterns in the first round of a women’s doubles match on Sept. 30. The prosecutor’s office said probe was opened on Oct. 1, the day after. The French tennis federation, which runs the French Open, referred all questions to the Tennis Integrity Unit, which oversees corruption investigations in the sport.
