The university said it was recognizing the two-time Academy Award-winner for his “critically acclaimed cinematic success as a writer, director, and actor.”Tarantino, who in 2018 married Israeli singer and model Daniella Pick, splits his time between Tel Aviv and Hollywood. The university noted Tarantino’s “strong ties to Israel through his wife Daniella, and for making Israel his second home.”Tarantino’s films are known for their signature dark humor. LOS ANGELES — (AP) — Miramax filed a lawsuit Tuesday against director Quentin Tarantino over the director's plans to create and auction off a series of NFTs based on his work on “Pulp Fiction." Tarantino recently announced plans to sell seven NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, which are digital works rendered unique and attached to a specific owner through cryptocurrency technology. According to the lawsuit, Tarantino's attorneys responded to cease-and-desist letters from Miramax by saying the sales fall under the partial rights Tarantino held from the production, including the rights to screenplay publication. The lawsuit asks a judge to forbid sale of the NFTs and any similar violation of Miramax copyrights, and asks for Tarantino to pay its legal fees and any related costs. “Pulp Fiction," the 1994 film starring Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman and John Travolta, took Tarantino from touted indie director to major filmmaking star.

The SAG Awards are one of the most closely watched Academy Awards bellwethers because, historically, a best ensemble nomination from the actors is usually a prerequisite for any best-picture contender's resume. Notably missing out on the best ensemble nomination was Noah Baumbach's divorce drama “Marriage Story," which on Monday led the Golden Globe nominations with six nods. This weekend features more dives into history, with "Mindhunter" -- Netflix's series inspired by the FBI profilers who actually coined the term "serial killer" in the 1970s -- and "Mind of a Monster," an Investigation Discovery series that kicks off with a two-hour episode devoted to Ted Bundy. The question lingers, however, whether it's possible to spend so much time examining what makes serial killers tick without slipping from natural curiosity into romanticizing them through sheer overexposure. "Ted Bundy: Mind of a Monster" premieres Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. on Investigation Discovery.
