ROBERT JACKSON

There’s a Lot of Harvard and Yale on the Supreme Court. And That’s OK.

Both Republican and Democratic presidents have their reasons for choosing nominees from such a small pool.

Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim Issues Statement Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg

Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim of the Department of Justice Antitrust Division issued the following statement on his participation in the Robert H. Jackson Center’s virtual reading of Justice Jackson’s opening statement at Nuremberg for the 75th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg:“I was honored and humbled to be a part of this project marking 75 years since the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. Justice Robert Jackson, who was the Chief U.S. Prosecutor at Nuremberg and once held the position of Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division, has long been a hero of mine for his boundless faith in justice and fairness. His work at Nuremberg showed the world that unspeakable acts of hatred will not go unpunished so long as there are good people willing to stand up for the powerless. In my role overseeing the Antitrust Division, I draw on this faith and commitment to justice to guide our work defending American consumers.”The virtual reading of Justice Jackson’s opening statement will be available at https://www.youtube.com/RobertHJacksonCenter on Saturday, November 21, 2020.

Receiver Cooper Kupp, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and running back Darrell Henderson all were active after missing practices with injuries. Raiders: T Kolton Miller (ankle), DT Maurice Hurst (ankle), QB Marcus Mariota, RB Theo Riddick, G John Simpson, DT Daniel Ross.

Trump plays on fears in play for the suburbs

Republicans lost more than three dozen suburban House districts in 2018, when suburban voters backed Democrats by an 11-point margin, according to AP VoteCast polling. Republicans have long relied on finding upper-income and white voters in the growing suburbs to build on their base in rural America and win elections. In 2018, one in four suburban voters identified as nonwhite, according to AP VoteCast. Back in Quakertown, Alex Whalen, 19, said she thinks Trump will lose just as many suburban voters as he gains with his law-and-order pitch. The Democrat doesn't think voters will recognize the sort of urban chaos he is describing.

Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim Delivers Remarks at the Public Workshop on Competition in Labor Markets

I am so pleased to open todays workshop on competition in labor markets. First, it will help inform our competition enforcement and advocacy in this area. That antitrust law applies to labor markets is at once a powerful statement -- and an admittedly dispassionate one. The idea that unlawful corporate power can harm both buyers and sellers rests in the foundation of U.S. antitrust law. After a framing presentation about the economics of labor markets and key questions for the workshop, Dr. Ron Drennan, one of the Divisions most talented economists, will moderate a discussion about approaches to defining labor markets.
