Rampant Liverpool scores 9, Haaland nets hat trick for City

A 9-0 win, equaling the record for the biggest ever victory in the English Premier League, sends a loud message indeed. Liverpool blew away Bournemouth at Anfield to put its early season struggles behind it, with Roberto Firmino scoring two goals and setting up three more. Manchester City also showed that it can never be counted out after the defending champion found itself trailing by two goals for the second straight game. Erling Haaland netted a second half hat trick as City rallied to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at home — having managed to salvage only a 3-3 draw at Newcastle last weekend. Fernandes steered in a cross from Diogo Dalot in the 55th as United followed up Monday’s win over Liverpool with another morale-boosting performance.

Liverpool relying on abnormal season to catch Man City

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is at least gaining hope from a season with so many sudden variables. WEST HAM SETBACKWest Ham twice came back against Leeds through Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals but Jack Harrison's third goal sealed a 3-2 win for the visitors in east London. Tottenham has now played four games fewer than West Ham and has only four points to eradicate. Playing three games in a week has taken its toll on West Ham, including a 2-0 win over Norwich on Wednesday. “I think it was a huge factor today,” West Ham manager David Moyes said.

Bale turns back time at Tottenham as Man U and Chelsea draw

(Matthew Childs/Pool via AP)LONDON – Gareth Bale turned back time for Tottenham, while Chelsea and Manchester United seemed happy just to play out time. Chelsea kept its unbeaten record under manager Thomas Tuchel in a 0-0 draw with Man United as both teams appeared reluctant to risk losing one point in the hope of getting three. However, Mourinho warned that Bale would still have to rest for some upcoming games to manage his form and fitness. He had scored six goals and assisted three more in his team's previous 10 league games. The draw left Scott Parker's team unbeaten in five league games, with only one goal conceded during that time, but still 18th and three points adrift of safety.

Son nets 4 as Spurs triumph; Mane double in Liverpool win

Heung-min Son was rampant, scoring four in a league game for a first time — all assisted by Harry Kane, who got Tottenham's fifth. Sadio Mane took advantage, grabbing two goals in five minutes to give Liverpool a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge. Two minutes into the second half, Kane played in Son again as Tottenham went in front. The South Korean secured his first Premier League hat trick in the 64th minute after being set up by Kane’s lofted pass. Kane became the first player to set up a Premier League teammate for four goals, crossing for Son to chip goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Liverpool beats Chelsea 5-3 before collecting PL trophy

Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum, right turns and celebrates after scoring his sides 3rd goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England, Wednesday, July 22, 2020. As the fans shut out of the stadium lit the sky with pyrotechnics, Liverpool and Chelsea provided their own explosive moments in an eight-goal thriller. A 5-3 victory before receiving the Premier League trophy was an entertaining way for Liverpool to sign off from Anfield for the season on Wednesday with eight different scorers. Just like four weeks ago, when Chelsea's victory over Manchester City clinched the trophy for Liverpool, fans couldn't resist gathering outside Anfield. With cordite filling the air from the pyrotechnics set off by Liverpool fans, it was Chelsea celebrating again.

Liverpool makes triumphant Anfield return as English champ

Liverpool's Sadio Mane, left, celebrates after scoring the opening goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Liverpool and Aston Villa at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England, Sunday, July 5, 2020. Liverpools players were back home at Anfield for the first time since winning a first English league title since 1990. Mane swept home a finish off the underside of the crossbar in the 71st for his 16th league goal of the season before Jones converted a shot from 10 meters out in the 89th after a nod-down from Mohamed Salah for his first Premier League goal. With second-place City losing 1-0 hours later at Southampton, Liverpool is on course to win the league by a record margin. BLADES BLUNTEDSheffield United's players resumed the Premier League with an outside shot at Champions League qualification.

Liverpool battles back against Newcastle to maintain perfect start

(CNN) - Liverpool had to come from a goal behind to battle past Newcastle and extend its lead at the top of the Premier League to five points. The attacking trio of Mane, Salah and Roberto Firmino were in typically scintillating form, though defensively it looked, at times, that some of the old cracks were showing. But when Liverpool attacks the way it did against Newcastle, perhaps defending shouldn't be too much of a concern. In its first season in the Premier League, the VAR system has come under heavy criticism following a series of glaring errors. Premier League officials have said they are happy with it so far, although referee chief Mike Riley admitted four errors had already been made so far.
