Longtime Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman commits to Notre Dame for final season
Hartman, the longtime starting quarterback at Wake Forest, announced Thursday that he has committed to play for the Fighting Irish for his final season of eligibility. That gives Hartman one last year of eligibility, meaning he will be a sixth-year senior next season at Notre Dame. This season, Hartman threw for 3,701 yards, 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 63.1% of his attempts. Still, it’s hard not to view Hartman as the heavy favorite to begin next season as Notre Dame’s starter. Notably, Wake Forest will visit Notre Dame Stadium on Oct. 28, giving Hartman a chance to face off against his former school.

But Buchner delivered the knockout blow when he found tight end Mitchell Evans wide open for a 16-yard touchdown on a third-and-7 play with 1:38 remaining. Notre Dame played without All-American tight end Michael Mayer, standout edge rusher Isaiah Foskey, cornerback Cam Hart and defensive lineman Jayson Ademilola. Notre Dame lost its bowl game last year to Oklahoma State after naming Freeman the head coach and dropped its season opener at Ohio State.

Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman is looking for a new school in 2023. The longtime Wake Forest starter has reportedly put his name in the transfer portal. Hartman threw for 4,228 yards and 39 TDs in 14 games in 2021 as Wake Forest went 11-3 and won the Gator Bowl. Wake Forest started this season 6-1 before losing four of its last five regular season games to end the season at 7-5. Hartman had said before the end of the season that 2022 would be his final season at Wake Forest.

Hartman threw his 108th career touchdown pass to set an Atlantic Coast Conference record on a 5-yard strike to Taylor Morin that made it 7-0 in the first quarter. A.T. Perry had 11 receptions for 116 yards for Wake Forest (8-5)Brady Cook threw for 215 yards on 29-of-48 passing for Missouri (6-7). Missouri took its first lead, 17-14, when Cody Schrader scored from 4 yards out with 5:45 remaining in the third quarter. Wake Forest went ahead 20-17 just 1:16 later when Hartman hooked up with Jahmal Banks for a 48-yard touchdown.

As a result of those six turnovers, Louisville scored 35 points despite putting up only 127 yards of offense. Miami needed all four quarters for those turnovers while all eight of Wake’s turnovers came in the second half.
