Bauer was suspended by Commissioner Rob Manfred on April 29, a penalty that if unchanged will cost the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher just over $60 million of his $102 million, three-year contract. A complicated grievance can take five to 10 hearing days plus additional time for the submission of briefs. Los Angeles prosecutors said in February that there was insufficient evidence to prove the woman's accusations beyond a reasonable doubt.

NEW YORK — (AP) — Trevor Bauer’s arbitration appeal of his unprecedented two-year suspension under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy has been scheduled to start May 23, a person familiar with the hearing told The Associated Press. The appeal will be heard by a three-person panel chaired by independent arbitrator Martin Scheinman. Los Angeles prosecutors said in February there was insufficient evidence to prove the woman’s accusations beyond a reasonable doubt. Bauer, who hasn’t played since the allegations surfaced last summer and MLB began investigating, repeatedly has said that everything that happened between the two was consensual.

APNewsBreak: MLB payrolls drop 4%, back to 2015 level

The Dodgers were hit with a $32.65 million luxury tax bill Monday as the sport resumed penalizing big spenders after a one-season suspension of the tax due to the pandemic. Raw payrolls and luxury tax payrolls are measured differently. The luxury tax payroll is somewhat more forward looking because it is calculated off the average annual values of contracts for 40-man roster players. The Dodgers had the highest luxury tax payroll at $285.6 million, second to their record $297.9 million in 2015. Luxury tax payrolls totaled $4.52 billion, down from $4.71 billion in 2019, $4.55 billion in 2018 and $4.66 billion in 2017, just above the $4.51 billion in 2016.

Report: Ohio woman sought protective order against Bauer

(AP Photo/Brynn Anderson, File) (Brynn Anderson)LOS ANGELES — (AP) — An Ohio woman sought a protective order against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer last year after accusing him of punching and choking her without consent while they were having sex, according to a report by The Washington Post. According to sealed court records and other documentation obtained by the Post, the Ohio woman said Bauer struck and choked her without her consent while they were having sex. The protective order in Ohio was the result of an ex parte proceeding, which means it was issued without a hearing from the other side. The protective order in California involving Bauer was issued the same way. A civil hearing for the temporary restraining order that was obtained against Bauer by that woman is scheduled for Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
