(AP Photo/Ben Gray) (Ben Gray)WASHIGTON — (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit to block the release of documents to the Jan. 6 select committee of Congress, challenging the decision of President Joe Biden to release them. Trump claims in the lawsuit that the request “is almost limitless in scope,” and seeks records with no reasonable connection to that day. “In a political ploy to accommodate his partisan allies, President Biden has refused to assert executive privilege over numerous clearly privileged documents requested by the Committee,” Trump says, according to the court papers. The Jan. 6 committee is seeking the documents as part of its investigation into how a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6 in an effort to halt the certification of Biden's win.

The letter went to at least some witnesses who were subpoenaed by the House committee and it makes clear that Trump plans to invoke privileges meant to protect presidential communications from being shared with Congress. Politico reported the existence of the letter earlier Thursday, the deadline the committee set for compliance. It was not immediately clear how witnesses would respond to Trump's decision to invoke executive privilege or what consequences that would face if they refuse to cooperate.

Trump Space Coast boat parade draws enormous fleet of watercraft to Intracoastal Waterway
Socks and perhaps 200 spectators watched the massive Trump boat parade pass from the Lee Wenner Park shoreline. Jupiter resident Carlos Gavidia, a key organizer of Saturday’s boat parade, hoped that more than 1,000 watercraft would participate. Gavidia organized the original "Trumptilla" boat parade in early May, drawing 1,538 watercraft along the Intracoastal Waterway from Jupiter to Mar-a-Lago. In response, he contacted U.S. Coast Guard officials and renamed his boat Trump — and then he paid $7,000 to wrap the hull with graphics featuring a bald eagle, the Stars and Stripes and "Trump" in large white lettering. His boat displayed two blue Trump flags and a U.S. flag.
