Leonard has season-high 36 to send Clippers past Spurs
SAN ANTONIO — (AP) — Kawhi Leonard scored a season-high 36 points against his former team, and the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a two-game skid by beating the San Antonio Spurs 131-126 on Friday night. Keldon Johnson had 23 points for San Antonio, which has lost nine of 11. Spurs: San Antonio assistant coach Brett Brown missed the game due to “personal business,” according to the team. WELCOME BACKLeonard was cheered by the Spurs fans for the first time since demanding a trade and leaving San Antonio in 2018. There was a smattering of boos, but nothing to the level of jeers he received in previous appearances in San Antonio.wftv.com
Clippers need to start seeing prime Kawhi Leonard soon, or their best-laid plans could crumble
As December wore on, Kawhi started to strong-arm, averaging 20.6 points, seven rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 31.9 minutes per game. After tonight, Clippers are 1-5 against the five teams above them in the West. They have yet to play #2 Grizzlies this season, the only West team to sweep them last season. These are the times that try teams' souls — the spots where you need your superstar to carry you. If we don't start seeing that more, and soon, then the sky may well start tumbling down in L.A. — and an entire franchise's best-laid plans might come with it.wftv.com
Kawhi Leonard returns to Clippers after 12 games out due to ACL rehab, makes 1st start of season
Kawhi Leonard is back for the Los Angeles Clippers. Leonard missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in the 2021 playoffs, then appeared off the bench in two of this season's first three games. He will be starting on Thursday, though, making his first appearance in the Clippers' starting lineup since his initial injury. Leonard's layoff had put the Clippers in a familiar situation: treading water while waiting to get healthy. All of last season was spent waiting for Leonard and Paul George to get healthy, and the former obviously never happened.wftv.com
With Lakers on deck, what can we make of the Clippers' tepid start?
The Clippers, more than any team in the NBA right now, exist in the eye of the beholder. The only team producing fewer points per possession than the Clippers is the 2-8 Lakers, whose woeful shotmaking has commanded much heavier scrutiny than that of their co-tenants. These Clippers really can't afford to be giving away possessions, because they don't create many for themselves. And I believe — I'm very optimistic that this team will find our stride and start playing our best basketball." Eleven games into the season where it’s all supposed to come together, we’re not yet sure which one the Clippers are.wftv.com
Kawhi Leonard still out for Clippers with knee injury, no timetable for his return
The Los Angeles Clippers still don’t know when Kawhi Leonard will be back out on the floor. Leonard missed his seventh game on Sunday night due to soreness in his knee linked to his ACL injury when the Clippers hosted the Utah Jazz. While coach Ty Lue said Leonard has been doing individual work, he's not sure when Leonard will be able to play. Leonard, who missed all of last season recovering from an ACL injury, then reported some stiffness in his knee. While the news may be frustrating, Lue said Leonard is still in good spirits.wftv.com
Kawhi Leonard out at least 2 games with stiffness in surgically repaired knee
The Los Angeles Clippers have been trying to bring back Kawhi Leonard as slowly as possible, but even that process can see some delays. Leonard was ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, as well as a game against the same team on Thursday, after feeling stiffness in his surgically repaired right knee at pregame shootaround, per ESPN. From ESPN:"After shootaround, (he) experienced some stiffness in his knee," Lue said before the Clippers played the Thunder. At Leonard's reported request, the Clippers have brought him off the bench and he has so far played in two of three games, skipping the first half of a back-to-back. Leonard has so far posted 25 points and 13 rebounds in 42 minutes played, shooting 8-of-18 from the field.wftv.com
Hot Takes We Might Actually Believe: Los Angeles Clippers are your 2023 NBA champions
Leonard joined the Clippers in 2019 free agency, recruiting Paul George to form one of the most formidable wing combinations the NBA has ever seen. We were robbed of an all-Los Angeles finals in the Western Conference, and the Lakers went on to win the title. The Clippers continued to provide Leonard with regular rest during the 2020-21 season, as he approached his 30th birthday. In Leonard's absence, George pushed the Phoenix Suns to six games in the 2021 Western Conference finals, averaging a 29-11-6 in defeat. Sources: Reggie Jackson expected to be Clippers' starting point guard over John Wall to open season
The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to name Reggie Jackson the starting point guard to open up the 2022-23 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Jackson was in a preseason battle with five-time All-Star John Wall for the starting point guard nod. Jackson is expected to join a lineup featuring Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Marcus Morris and Ivica Zubac. It is unlikely Wall will play back-to-back games to start the year, sources said. He had a strong exhibition campaign, but Jackson has continuity with the personnel from his two-plus seasons with the team.wftv.com
NBA camps open; some go abroad, Spurs plan a trip to Uvalde
He also spoke at an event in Uvalde in June, and the Spurs are one of many teams who have pledged support for the community. They became just the second team in 26 years to win an NBA championship after having the best preseason record. It’s the first of 70 preseason games on the schedule. On the other end of that spectrum: Portland, which has dropped seven consecutive preseason games, the longest such streak in the league. Preseason games go through Oct. 14.wftv.com

Clippers' cool-hand Lue is NBA's best in elimination games
They recovered from 0-2 deficits against Dallas and Utah to reach the Western Conference finals for the first time in franchise history. Much of their resilience can be credited to Tyronn Lue, who is a NBA-best 10-2 in elimination games as a coach. LA is likely to be without two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, who has been out with a right knee sprain. In 12 postseason appearances, he's made the conference finals twice and lost in the first round six times. Ayton's two best performances against the Clippers came in Games 1 and 2, when he scored 20 or more points.wftv.com

The Suns and Clippers meet in Game 1 on Sunday in Phoenix with the status of some of their most important pieces in doubt. “You've just got to have a mentality of next man up,” Suns forward Jae Crowder said. Suns coach Monty Williams said Paul's situation was “day-to-day” and didn't elaborate on his Game 1 status. The 6-foot-5 Mann, who can play guard and forward, is not afraid to drive to the basket but also possesses a strong perimeter shooting game. I mean, you just saw so many flashes of so many different things,” Clippers forward Paul George said.wftv.com
