Amazon, Cadillac score with Super Bowl ads

NEW YORK – During this year's Super Bowl, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reigned supreme on the field. Overall, this year's crop of Super Bowl ads focused on light humor that strove to entertain and connect. Bud Light Seltzer LemonadeBud Light used lemons as a metaphor for everything that went wrong in 2020 to introduce its new Seltzer Lemonade. Michelob was likely hoping to drive people to repeat views online with the celebrity lookalikes, but during the fast-moving Super Bowl the conceit was confusing. With its first-ever Super Bowl ad, Scott's was looking to keep that momentum going, but the overstuffed ad ended up being distracting.

Super Bowl ads to watch: Sexy Alexa, Dan Levy’s M&M habit

It might not have seemed likely early in the pandemic, but the 55th Super Bowl Sunday is upon us yet again. Amazon shows off a sexy new body for its Alexa assistant, Dan Levy apologizes for eating M&M's and Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade makes a downpour of lemons a metaphor for 2020's troubles. AdInspiration4 “ Join Us "In what is surely a first in Super Bowl history, an ad for Inspiration4, a SpaceX supported all-civilian space mission touts a chance for viewers to join the mission. Dan Levy of “Schitt’s Creek” apologizes to the M&M anthropomorphic characters that are Super Bowl mainstays and says he promises not to “eat any more of their friends." And E-Trade, famous for the talking baby ads it ran in the Super Bowl from 2008 until they “retired" in 2014, is back in the big game with an undisclosed ad.

The case is due to end Tuesday, but judge Andrew Nicol is not expected to deliver his ruling for several weeks.

(AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth)LONDON A #MeToo activist said in a court document released Friday that she was misquoted and misused by a British tabloid newspaper in an article that accused Johnny Depp of physically abusing his ex-wife, Amber Heard. I was not going public on behalf of #MeToo or myself, to criticize J.K. Rowlings decision to cast Mr. Depp, nor did I accuse Mr. Depp of hurting Amber Heard, about which I have no first-hand knowledge.Kendall also said she had heard several times that Heard was abusive to Depp. Depp, 57, and Heard, 34, met on the set of the 2011 comedy The Rum Diary and married in Los Angeles in February 2015. Hollywood comes to UK High Court as Depp takes on The Sun

FILE - In this Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 file photo, actor Johnny Depp arrives for the screening of the film Minamata during the 70th International Film Festival, Berlinale in Berlin, Germany. Heard alleges that Depp subjected her to a three-day ordeal of physical assaults while they were in the country after drinking and taking drugs. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million for allegedly defaming him in a Washington Post article about domestic abuse. Last week, judge Andrew Nicol ruled that Depp had breached the court order, but said it would not be just to throw out the actors claim. They argued that her testimony would be more reliable if she weren't present in court when Depp was being cross-examined.

UK judge says Amber Heard can be in court for Depp testimony

LONDON Johnny Depp's lawyers have failed to stop the American actor's ex-wife, Amber Heard, from attending his libel trial against the British tabloid newspaper The Sun until she is called to give evidence. In a court order published on Saturday, trial judge Andrew Nicol said that excluding Heard from the London courtroom before she testifies in the case would inhibit the defendants in the conduct of their defense." Depp, 57, is suing The Suns publisher, News Group Newspapers, and Executive Editor Dan Wootton over a 2018 article claiming the actor was violent and abusive to Heard. Depp's lawyers had asked the judge to keep Heard from attending the trial until the 34-year-old actress and model appears to give evidence, arguing that her testimony would be more reliable if she were not present in court when Depp was being cross-examined. The judge noted it is News Group and Wootton, and not Heard, that are defending the claim, while conceding they will be relying heavily on what Heard says.

Tabloid's lawyers seek to get Johnny Depp lawsuit thrown out

LONDON Lawyers for British tabloid The Sun urged a U.K. judge on Thursday to throw out Johnny Depps libel claim against the paper because the film star allegedly failed to disclose evidence relating to his drug use. Depp is suing the newspapers publisher, News Group Newspapers, and Executive Editor Dan Wootton over a 2018 article claiming the actor was violent and abusive to his ex-wife Amber Heard. Each accuses the other of being abusive, and Depp is also suing Heard for libel in the United States. Depp and Heard are both expected to give evidence in person at the London trial, which was postponed from March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Witnesses could include Depps ex-partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder, who have both submitted statements supporting the Pirates of the Caribbean star.
