Volusia County is officially under a burn ban as drought conditions worsen, raising the risk of wildfires and brush fires this weekend.

Central Florida remains locked in a very dry weather pattern.

Flagler County will undergo a week-long burn ban due to dry conditions and the threat of brush fires.

Residents are still encouraged to reduce the risk of being affected by brush fires by creating a defensible space of at least 30 feet around their homes by keeping grass moved and vegetation cut away.

This past weekend, Osceola County issued the burn ban, prohibiting residents from burning anything outside. This includes campfires, burning waste, and setting off fireworks.

With the local drought index soaring, a burn ban has been instituted for unincorporated areas of Osceola County.

The abnormally hot and dry weather throughout April is now catching up to residents in Central Florida as the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows that portions of the area have now entered extreme drought conditions.
