ORLANDO, Fla. – An active manhunt was underway Monday while Central Florida law enforcement searched for a man wanted for shooting and killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and an Orlando police officer.
The area near John Young Parkway and Princeton Street, where the officer was shot at around 7 a.m., is blocked off. Drivers should avoid Orange Blossom Trail and Lee Road as well. Here are the other areas to avoid:
Police activity has closed OBT from Shader Road to Clarcona Ocoee Road. Drivers can use Edgewater Drive as an alternate road to OBT.
Pine Hills Road at North Lane is closed. Use North Powers or Hiwassee Road as an alternate route.
Avoid the Rosemont area, where there is an extremely heavy police presence around the shooting scene.
Delays are increasing on Lee Road Northbound between Arawak Lane and Andrus Avenue.
North Lee Road between Benjamin Avene and Orlando Avenue is congested with an average speed five mph.
The road closures are subject to change as the search for Markeith Loyd, 41, who is wanted in connection with the slaying of his pregnant ex-girlfriend and an OPD officer, continues.
Numerous Orange County Public Schools are locked down because of the search. See the full list here.
