Man killed, woman critically hurt in Marion County motorcycle crash

Driver braked hard for unknown reason, Florida troopers say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 61-year-old Illinois man was killed and a 54-year-old woman was critically injured Sunday night in a motorcycle crash in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal single-vehicle wreck happened around 9:20 p.m. on County Road 484 near San Miguel Boulevard in Dunnellon.

The FHP said the man was driving a motorcycle east on C.R. 484 when he braked hard for an unknown reason. The bike skidded on the road and overturned, ejecting the man and woman, according to an FHP crash report.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.

The woman, also from Illinois, was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital with life-threatening injuries, the crash report stated.
