65-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash with car near RaceTrac in Leesburg, police say

LEESBURG, Fla. – A 65-year-old Tavares man was killed when a car driven by a 88-year-old Fruitland Park woman was involved in a crash with his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Leesburg, police said.

The fatal crash happened around 6 p.m. Saturday near U.S. Highway 441 and Tomato Hill Road.

Leesburg police said a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Honda Fit driven by the woman was exiting the RaceTrac gas station onto U.S. Highway 441 south when the vehicle collided with a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling south on Highway 441. 

The motorcyclist, identified as William Clough, of Tavares, was taken to UF Health-Leesburg, where he later died, police said.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone who might have witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the Leesburg Police Department at 352-787-2121.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for about three hours.
