LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman were killed Wednesday afternoon when the ATV they were riding struck a tree and overturned in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the double-fatal crash happened around 3:15 p.m. at North Austin Merritt Road and Ward Drive in Groveland.

According to a FHP crash report, the ATV was traveling north on North Austin Merritt Road, north of Ward Drive.

Trooper said the driver lost control of the ATV, which ran off of the road and struck a tree before overturning, the FHP said.
According to troopers, the 22-year-old Sanford man and 21-year-old Davenport woman were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
