According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 64-year-old DeLand man — was east of the intersection and walking westbound on S.R. 44 while a sedan was being driven eastbound on the same roadway. As a result, the front of the sedan struck the pedestrian, who troopers said was not in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while the sedan’s two occupants — a 21-year-old man driving with a 24-year-old man riding as passenger, both of DeLand — were not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, the report states.
FHP is still investigating.
