Bicyclist dies after being struck by SUV in Orlando, FHP says

Crash occurred on Edgewater Drive near All American Boulevard

ORLANDO, Fla. – A bicyclist died after being struck by an SUV Friday morning in Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on Edgewater Drive near All American Boulevard, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the SUV — driven by a 57-year-old Orlando man — was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of Edgewater Drive, approaching All American Boulevard. The bicyclist was traveling in a northerly direction on Edgewater Drive in the direct path of the SUV and was struck by the front right of the vehicle as a result, the report states.

The bicyclist, identified as a 51-year-old Apopka man, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a helmet during the crash.

The Orlando man driving the SUV was not injured and remained at the scene, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
