OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Six people were killed in a fiery crash Saturday afternoon in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:46 p.m. on State Road 60, near South Kenansville Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, an SUV was traveling westbound on S.R. 60 as a semitruck traveled east, both vehicles west of South Kenansville Road. The SUV’s driver attempted to pass several vehicles and lost control while trying to get back in the westbound lanes, causing the left side of the SUV to strike the front of the semitruck, the report states.
The impact caused both vehicles to become engulfed in flames, according to FHP.
All six of the SUV’s occupants — possibly three adults and three children, troopers said — became entrapped and were pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. Confirmation of their identities is pending word from the medical examiner’s office, according to FHP.
The 36-year-old Miami Gardens man who was driving the semitruck suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital, troopers said.
FHP is still investigating.
