VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A passenger in an SUV was killed in a crash with a box truck in Ormond Beach on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 south of U.S. Highway 1 around 1:42 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Honda CR-V was traveling north on I-95, south of U.S. 1 in the center lane.
At the same time, a box truck was traveling on the outside shoulder of northbound I-95 attempting to merge back into traffic.

Troopers said the CR-V swerved towards the outside shoulder and struck the back of the box truck.
According to the report, a third vehicle – a Hyundai Tucson – attempted to swerve to avoid the crash ahead and struck debris.
Troopers said the CR-V’s passenger, identified as a 23-year-old North Carolina woman, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver, identified as a 24-year-old North Carolina man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the box truck and Tucson were not injured and remained on-scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
