MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 66-year-old Ocala man was killed in a hit-and-run crash overnight in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A passerby called in the incident around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, troopers said. According to an FHP crash report, the man’s body was found in the right turn lane of County Road 464 (Maricamp Road), just east of its intersection with Bahia Road.

He had been walking within the westbound turn lane of C.R. 464 when he was struck by the front on an unknown westbound vehicle, troopers said, adding the area was dark with no street lighting.

The vehicle left the scene and its driver failed to report the crash, according to the report.

Troopers said the suspect vehicle would have damage to the front grille/hood section, with gray-colored grille parts broken away and missing, the report states.

Anyone with information about the vehicle of the driver is asked to contact Cpl. Justin Bard at 352-512-6643 or Crime Stoppers.
