MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A multi-vehicle crash involving four semitrucks and a Honda Civic shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 for hours in Marion County on Wednesday evening, according to a news release.
Officials from the FDOT said the crash was reported in the northbound lanes of I-75 in the area of exit 352 and State Road 40 around 3:49 p.m. It later reopened around 8 p.m.
“The incident involved an overturned semi-truck that was reportedly traveling Southbound when a tire failure led to the vehicle veering into oncoming traffic,” officials said in the release.
The overturned semi, which was transporting corn, came to rest on top of a Honda Civic that was traveling northbound.
In addition, officials said one semi impacted the rear of the overturned semi and came to a stop north of the main incident scene and two other semis were involved in a rear-end collision when the incident unfolded.

According to the release, two occupants of the Honda Civic were trauma alerted to the hospital.
Officials said that “due to the rupture of one of the overturned semi-truck’s saddle tanks, releasing approximately 350 gallons of diesel into the median, the state warning point was notified.”
Officials said the Ocala Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, Road Rangers, and Marion County Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.
