WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A woman was struck by a car and killed in Polk County early Sunday when she walked into its path, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 2:25 a.m. on US-17, north of Mirror Drive in Winter Haven, troopers said.
According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the woman was in a center median turn lane and walked into the path of a Toyota Camry that was being driven south on southbound US-17 by a 30-year-old Winter Haven man.
The car struck the woman as a result, the report states.
The woman died at the scene, troopers said. She had not been identified at the time of this report.
