LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed and another suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on County Road 439 near Live Oak Ranch Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a sedan with two occupants — a 28-year-old Belleview man driving and a 29-year-old Crestview man riding as a passenger — was traveling northbound on C.R. 439 at a high rate of speed, approaching Live Oak Ranch Road, when it ran off the roadway to the right for unknown reasons.

The sedan went airborne and struck a tree, troopers said. The driver was ejected from the car and died at the scene, the report states, adding the passenger was hospitalized for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers believe the driver was not wearing a seat belt while the passenger was.

FHP is still investigating.
