KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The City of Kissimmee has been installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Ball Park Road and Dyer Boulevard as part of a $1 million traffic-improvement project intended to improve safety and traffic flow along one of North Kissimmee’s busiest corridors.
Traffic data compiled for the area shows 68 crashes at the intersection between Feb. 27, 2024, and Feb. 27, 2025, prompting city officials to prioritize the addition of a full signal at the location, which serves homes, businesses, and is just a few minutes away from Flora Ridge Elementary School.
Alfredo Torres, a local resident who uses a bank at the intersection, said he welcomes the change. “You know, sometimes people drive too crazy, they don’t pay attention to much. They should pay attention more. ”
Torres said that even before the signal is fully operational, it is already making the intersection safer.

Mary Velazquez, another nearby resident, said the frequency of accidents made the upgrade long overdue.
“It’s always busy here. Sixty-eight accidents here last year. It’s ridiculous, so I am actually proud that they are fixing it and doing something about it finally,” she said.
Barrels and temporary channeling have been placed to acclimate drivers to the new traffic pattern while the final components are installed. The signal is expected to be fully operational before the end of September, following final inspection and testing by city and safety officials.
City leaders say the project is part of ongoing efforts to reduce collisions and improve pedestrian and vehicular safety along key corridors in Kissimmee.
