OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured in a crash on Interstate 4 with a stolen vehicle reported out of Polk County, according to officials.
The crash happened early Tuesday near exit 55 in Polk County.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted the stolen Honda Civic on US-192 near Holiday Trail. The sheriff’s office said its aviation team tracked the vehicle as it traveled into Orange County and then back into Osceola County.
The sheriff’s office said it contacted FHP for assistance with stopping the vehicle.
The trooper tried to stop the Honda Civic near exit 55 in Polk County when the wreck happened. The Honda ended up coming to a stop after becoming disabled.
The driver, 47-year-old Clifford Marvil Pinellas, and his passenger, 47-year-old Juan Carlos Laguer, in the stolen vehicle were arrested. The driver was taken to the hospital.
According to the FHP, the trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Pinellas faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and alluding an officer and driving while license suspended. Laguer faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and trespass in a conveyance.
An investigation is ongoing.
