1 injured after vehicle gets stuck under school bus in New Smyrna Beach

Westbound lanes of SR-44 blocked due to crash

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – One person was seriously injured Monday morning in a crash involving a vehicle and a school bus, the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department said.

Emergency crews responded to State Road 44 and Hughes Road. Fire officials said the vehicle became lodged underneath the school bus, causing significant damage.

Fire officials said crews extricated one person who was airlifted to the hospital as a trauma alert.

Officials initially said there were no children on board, but there was one child on the school bus. The child was uninjured.

The westbound lanes of SR-44 are blocked, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
