HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 54-year-old Apopka man driving an SUV on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County died after suffering a medical emergency and crashing Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. along westbound I-4, west of Branch Forbes Road, troopers said.
According to a preliminary FHP statement, the man lost control of the Kia upon suffering a medical emergency and it entered the median, where it struck a guardrail.
The SUV was redirected back across the highway and rotated while entering the outside grass shoulder, where it struck an embankment, became airborne, and overturned in the tree line, the statement reads.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died, troopers said.
