MARION COUNTY, Fla. – An Ocala man was killed and four other people were hurt in a head-on crash late Saturday in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:10 p.m. on SW 49th Avenue, near SW 117th Place, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, a 35-year-old Ocala man was driving a sedan southbound on SW 49th Avenue, south of SW 117th Place, as a 70-year-old Ocala man drove a sedan northbound.
The southbound sedan crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane, causing an offset head-on crash, the report states.
The 70-year-old Ocala man was pronounced dead at a hospital while his passenger, a 31-year-old Ocala man, was hospitalized with critical injuries, troopers said. The driver of the southbound sedan was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries and his two passengers — a 22-year-old Fort Lauderdale man and an 18-year-old man pending further identification — were hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, the report states.
Troopers believe everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
FHP is still investigating.
