‘Traffic pacing operations’ slows I-4 in Seminole, Volusia. Here’s what to know

Drivers brought to complete stop near Sanford

SANFORD, Fla. – Drivers in Seminole and Volusia counties experienced major delays on Interstate 4 Thursday as a series of “traffic pacing operations” were conducted in connection to a recent triple-fatal crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, law enforcement slowed traffic on eastbound I-4 to conduct work along the interstate.

The FHP early Thursday specified that investigators were gathering evidence, including scene photos and road measurements.

I-4 east near Sanford was completely shut down for at least an hour at the start of the operation, according to Trooper Steve.

The investigation stems from three people being killed in a hit-and-run crash on I-4 in Volusia County the night of October 4. Among the victims were Flagler County Deputy County Administrator Jorge Salinas and his wife.

Drivers who attempted to enter eastbound I-4 near Lake Mary Boulevard may have had to wait or follow law enforcement at a reduced speed.

Anyone who attempted to enter eastbound I-4 between County Road 46A and Dirksen Drive was diverted off the interstate.

During the detour, drivers were directed north on U.S. 17-92, then east on Saxon Boulevard to access the ramp to re-enter eastbound I-4.

Drivers who use the eastbound I-4 ramp to Interstate 95 also experienced delays.
