VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a man who was walking on U.S. 92 in Volusia County overnight was knocked down in a hit-and-run, leading to his death after subsequently being struck by multiple vehicles that also fled the scene.

The initial driver was traveling westbound in the outside lane of U.S. 92 (International Speedway Boulevard), east of Calle Alto Vista, when their left side mirror struck the man around midnight, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 54-year-old Deltona man — was walking north across the westbound lanes of U.S. 92 when he was struck. Troopers said he was not in a marked crosswalk.

The man was knocked down by the impact and was then struck by multiple other vehicles that did not stop, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
