Smoke warning after 49-acre wildfire surges in Volusia County

Shell wildfire contained near Interstate 95, fire officials said

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County fire officials issued a warning to drivers after a 49-acre wildfire broke out near Interstate 95.

In a release, the Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association said the shell wildfire had been 100% contained as of around 7:30 p.m.

The Florida Forest Service is on scene, and investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire, officials added.

“Cause undetermined and under investigation with many camps in the area,” the release reads.

Meanwhile, fire officials urged nearby drivers to use caution, as smoke will be in the area.
