ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – It’s the holiday season, and today I’m back at Orange County Animal Services for one of my favorite parts of this job: helping a shelter pet find the family they’ve been waiting for. And trust me, the little guy I’m featuring today may be one of the most unforgettable pups we’ve met all year.
His name is Poidog (ID A582646) and he’s the kind of dog who makes you tilt your head and go, “Wait… what is he?” Because truthfully, nobody really knows. And that mystery is half the fun.
Poidog is estimated by the vets to be around 2 to 3 years old, but if you spend even 30 seconds with him, you’ll swear he’s younger. He’s all puppy energy wrapped into a medium-size body that isn’t big, isn’t small — he’s just Poidog-shaped. And that shape usually includes a huge grin, because this dog has one of the most infectious smiles I’ve seen at the shelter.

He’s affectionate, mischievous and playful. He loves toys, he loves hugs and if you give him a chance to hop up on a sofa, he will melt right into you for hours. This is a holiday snuggle buddy in the making.
Like many shelter pets, he has quirks, Poidog is not good with other dogs, so he’ll need a home where he can be the only pet. But for the right family, he will give back every bit of love you pour into him.
And when people ask what breed mix he is, the shelter always gives the same answer: “He’s the best breed of all, a shelter dog.”
Today on Trooper Steve on Patrol, I’ll be spending time with Poidog, sharing his personality, and doing everything I can to help this sweet, goofy, bright-eyed pup find a forever home for the holidays. I hope you’ll join us, share the stream and maybe even fall in love with him yourself.
Let’s get Poidog the Christmas miracle he deserves.
