1 dead in crash involving semi on CR-473 in Lake County

Wreck happened near Lake Eustis Drive

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 57-year-old Leesburg man died Monday morning in a crash involving a semi on County Road 473 in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 5:50 a.m. near Lake Eustis Drive.

According a crash report, a semi-truck with trailer was traveling north on C.R.473, approaching Lake Eustis Drive.

A Ford F-150 was traveling south on C.R. 473, approaching Lake Eustis Drive in the outside lane.

Troopers said the semi driver stopped and began backing in a westerly direction into a private driveway. The pickup truck failed to stop for the semi blocking the roadway ahead. As a result, the front of the Ford struck the left side of the semi’s trailer.

The driver of the Ford – identified as a 57-year-old Leesburg man – was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Ford, identified as a 27-year-old Leesburg woman, was airlifted to ORMC with non-life-threatening injuries.

The semi driver, a 67-year-old Arkansas man, and his passenger, a 63-year-old Arkansas man, were uninjured.
