Ambulance headed to crash on I-95 in Volusia struck from behind; 3 injured

2 paramedics not hurt in wreck

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia County EMS ambulance headed to a crash on I-95 was struck from behind, sending it off the highway and into a guardrail, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The two wrecks happened Tuesday morning on I-95 north at mile marker 268 near Ormond Beach.

The FHP said the ambulance was called to a two-vehicle crash on I-95 and was slowing down when it was struck from behind.

The ambulance and the vehicle that struck it were sent off the roadway and collided with the guardrail, troopers said.

Three crash victims from the two collisions were taken to Daytona Halifax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but the two EMS paramedics were not hurt and remained at the scene, according to the FHP.

The inside lane of I-95 north was blocked in the area but later reopened.

The crashes are under investigation.
