31-year-old man killed in single-vehicle crash in Volusia County

Crash happened on on SR-44 and Old Sawmill Road

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 31-year-old Valrico man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Volusia County on Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 9:08 a.m. on State Road 44 and Old Sawmill Road.

According to a crash report, a Ford F-150 was traveling west on S.R. 44 in the outside lane, approaching the intersection o Old Sawmill Road.

Troopers said the pickup truck was traveling above the posted speed limit when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and ran off of the roadway right, onto the shoulder.

According to the report, the truck then continued to travel west before striking several trees. It then overturned onto its roof.

Troopers said the driver was pronounced dead at thes cene.

The crash remains under investigation.
