ORLANDO, Fla. – One of my favorite parts of Trooper Steve on Patrol has nothing to do with traffic, construction zones, or Florida statutes.
It’s the conversations that happen inside Results-1.
So when we welcomed a new member to the WKMG News 6 family, I knew exactly what we had to do: hop in the truck and go for a ride.
Community correspondent Ashley Garrett joined me for Trooper Steve on Patrol, and from the moment she climbed into Results-1, it felt like catching up with someone I’d known for years.
That’s kind of the magic of these rides. There’s no desk, no studio lights, and no scripts, just real conversation.
Ashley is a true Central Florida native, and that local connection shows. After spending years building her journalism career, she’s now back home telling the stories of the community that helped shape her. There’s something special about that full-circle moment, and it’s exactly what makes our newsroom strong.
And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Ashley is also getting ready for a brand-new chapter in her life. Her family is growing, and she’s expecting a baby girl very soon. Between traffic lights and turns through town, we talked about balancing work, life, family, and the passion that keeps journalists chasing stories every single day.
That’s what I love most about these Patrol rides. They’re not just about where we’re driving, they’re about who we are.
The laughs, the honesty, and the shared experiences give you a real glimpse behind the scenes of the people you see on your screen every day.
At News 6, we spend a lot of time talking to the community. Moments like this remind me how important it is to also talk with each other. Ashley’s energy, heart, and connection to Central Florida fit right in, and I’m excited for you to get to know her just like I did, one mile at a time.
Along with being a News 6 community correspondent, Ashley will also anchor the News 6 weekend evening broadcasts.
