SR-46 reopens in Lake County after body found nearby

Body ID’d as 49-year-old DeBary woman

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A portion of State Road 46 was temporarily closed in Lake County after a body was found nearby, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies, EMS, and firefighters responded around 7:13 a.m. Wednesday, to a report of a body in a grassy area alongside State Road 429, near S.R. 46 and Sleepy Bear Lane, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The individual — identified by troopers as a 49-year-old woman from DeBary — was pronounced dead by first responders, deputies said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the sheriff’s office requested it to conduct a death investigation, during which troopers determined a vehicle was not involved in the incident. Citing preliminary evidence, troopers said the woman had fallen from S.R. 429 onto S.R. 46, according to FHP.

The timing of the incident is still under investigation.

S.R. 46 was closed between Cypress Mill Road and Sleepy Bear Lane as an investigation got underway.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
