Daytona Beach hotel that welcomed Black travelers is fighting to survive
Before the end of segregation, the Campbell Hotel was one of the only places Black travelers could stay in Daytona Beach. Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sammy Davis Jr. all passed through its doors — and it was featured in the historic Negro Travelers' Green Book. Now, the condemned building's fate hangs in the balance. The City of Daytona Beach is set to receive a presentation on its future. Will it be restored and repurposed — or lost to history forever?
