Winter Garden man dies in head-on crash on Avalon Road

Charges pending against Catherine Burzynsky

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – A 52-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning when a car crashed into his vehicle head-on in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 5:45 a.m. on Avalon Road at Schofield Road near Winter Garden.

According to the FHP, Catherine Burzynsky, 46, of New Hampshire, was driving a 2018 Chrysler van north on Avalon Road when she traveled into the southbound lanes and struck the front of a 2001 Nissan four-door, driven by Benny Torres.

The Nissan overturned, and Torres was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died, the FHP said.

Burzynsky suffered serious injuries and was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital, troopers said.

Burzynsky's van struck a Jeep SUV after hitting the Nissan, and the driver of the Jeep, Richard Garcia, 64, suffered minor injuries, the FHP said.

All three drivers were wearing their seat belts, and alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
