Slightly drier in Central Florida as hurricane season begins

Southern counties have best chance of showers

ORLANDO, Fla. – A front that brought us rain and storms for our Saturday is now situated to our south, keeping most of the rain out of our area. Our southern counties like Osceola and Brevard have the best chance of seeing some rain and isolated storms today, with a 30% chance of showers.

Highs will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, especially north of Orlando where skies are likely to stay a bit sunnier. Overnight lows will be seasonably warm, with muggy conditions sticking around.

Looking ahead to the workweek

Moisture levels start to go up by Monday and that increases our chance of rain into the workweek. Expect another round of scattered to numerous storms, some of which could become strong. Gusty winds, lightning, and brief downpours remain the main threats.

This active pattern will stick with us through at least midweek, with a daily chance of afternoon and evening showers and storms through Saturday. While not everyone will get rain each day, keep the umbrella handy just in case.

Beach and boating outlook

If you’re thinking about a beach day this week, here’s a heads-up: the risk of rip currents will be elevated, especially in the afternoons when onshore winds pick up. Make sure to swim near lifeguards and keep a close eye on kids in the surf. Water conditions can change quickly.

Boaters will see light winds and low seas today, generally around 1–2 feet. Seas increase slightly again midweek, especially offshore Volusia County where 3–4 foot waves are possible by Wednesday and Thursday.

Tropics

Today is the first day of hurricane season. Right now, the Atlantic basin remains quiet.
