ORLANDO, Fla. – Grab the umbrella and keep it handy — showers are streaming in from the Atlantic and are expected to stick around in Central Florida through much of week.
We’ve already seen some light rain for Tuesday’s morning drive.
The best chance of seeing some heavy rain will be across Brevard and Osceola counties.
Developing low pressure in the tropics draws attention
Central Florida’s wet weather is tied, in part, to an area of low pressure developing along a stalled front.
The area is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center and has a 10% chance of developing tropical characteristics over the next several days.
The area of low pressure is forecast to lift north and move out over the Atlantic toward the end of the week. But until then, it will help boost local rain chances, especially midweek.
Cooler temperatures and flooding potential
With increased clouds and rainfall, temperatures will run several degrees cooler than usual.
Highs across Central Florida are predicted to top out around 85 degrees, compared to the typical 90 degrees for this time of year.
Cities like Ocala may reach 89 degrees, while Melbourne is forecast to see a high of 82 degrees.
Rain chances and weekend outlook
Our highest rain chance this week is Wednesday, at 40%, thanks to the influence of the low pressure area.
As the system moves away on Thursday, rain chances start to drop but remain above normal into Friday.
By the weekend, Central Florida will gradually return to a more typical summer weather pattern, with highs in the low 90s and typical afternoon showers and storms.
